Best of 3 coin flip

One flip feels arbitrary — and the loser usually asks for “best of three” anyway. Set the series length up front, and the room keeps score, flips round by round, and stops as soon as somebody has won it.

Start a best of 3

How a coin flip series works

When you create a room you choose the series length: a single flip, best of 3, or best of 5. Each player holds one side of the coin — swapping sides takes both players’ consent, in the lobby. Every round both players ready up, one coin flips for everyone, and the point goes to whoever’s side landed.

Best of 3 is first to two wins; best of 5 is first to three. The scoreboard updates live on both screens and for anyone watching. When a player clinches the series the match ends — no pointless extra rounds — and either player can ask for a rematch.

Does best of 3 change the odds?

Not between two equal sides. Each flip is an independent 50/50, so each player still has exactly a one-in-two chance of taking the series, whether it is one flip or five.

What changes is how it feels. A best of 3 runs two or three rounds, and a best of 5 can swing back from two down. People accept a result more readily after a short series than after a single toss, which is the whole reason “best of three?” gets asked in the first place. Agreeing on the length before the first flip is what keeps it from stretching into best of seven.

Every round is provable

A series uses one committed server seed and numbers each round. The result of round n is derived from that seed, both players’ seeds and the round number, so the server cannot quietly re-roll a round it does not like. When the series ends the seed is published and every round can be recomputed.

Questions

How many flips is a best of 3?

Two or three. The series ends as soon as one player has two wins, so a 2–0 start finishes it without a third flip.

Can we switch to best of 5 halfway through?

Only if you both agree, and only in the lobby. Either player can propose a different length and the other accepts or declines; once the coin is flipping, the terms are locked.

Can other people watch the series?

Yes. Share the read-only watch link and spectators follow every round and the running score live.
